PRESERVING INDONESIAN JOURNALISM HISTORY AT NATIONAL PRESS MONUMENT

Objective. The National Press Monument is a part of the Indonesian Ministry Communication and Information (KOMINFO) which has sole responsibility developing communication information sectors government including media journalism. This research explains preservation process Journalism newsprint implemented at Monument. purpose this study to give an overview importance users vital source containing Indonesia’s press history about Journalist Association before Indonesia gained its independence. collects preserves old journals on various subjects. Methods. qualitative approach observation methods are used for research. method focus practices. Alongside observation, technique application in-depth interviews. These explain processes preservation. Results. results have found that four approaches preserve material: preventive, curative, restorative, digitalization. Preventive action carried out by controlling temperature, humidity, light, preventing human-caused damage conducting bookbinding action. curative operation was done fumigation using Sulfuryl Fluoride (S02F2). restorative step connecting parts torn/perforated paper, repairing damaged binding. Finally, also developed new material called freezing. aimed protect manuscript from any harmful organism. Conclusions. can be in libraries. not only contributes preserving but develop ways protecting manuscripts through policies.
